Thousands of dollars worth of antique furniture that had been completely restored damaged in the move with All My sons

All My Sons moving which listed as Mayflower transit I had no reason not to trust them because we used Mayflower out of Madison Indiana to move all our belongings to Florida. But what damage was done to our hierloom antiques was unbelievable! Now they think that $1045.00 is all they want us to settle for what they think we deserve.

Disappointed in service for amount of money paid

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I can't image that more could have gone wrong with this move. I am beyond disappointed with Mayflower and their local affiliates Suddath (St Petersburg, FL) and Parks Moving company (Warrendale, PA).

I opted to go with a large national company and pay a lot more money for some assurance of quality control and care and now that it is all said and done I can tell you that I got neither.

There were THREE instances of the trucks breaking down. The PA truck broke down on the day of delivery and on the return trip, causing a delay in both the pickup and delivery. In order to keep to the pickup date they sent a local crew (FL), the team leader of the local crew put in absolute minimal effort making it clear that he was a stand in, had no interest in being there and did a poor job of inventorying our items and ensuring that even the most basic care of fragile items was taken. The local truck broke down as well, but it happened in front of our house, so they were able to load the truck while they waited for the mechanic to come in for the repair.

The driver from PA then picked up our things in FL and according to his report on the day of delivery, there were things missing and not recorded correctly on the inventory sheet and that our china cabinet had already broken by the time he picked it up, he stated that the FL team didn't pack it properly and should have protected it with cardboard, which he ended up doing prior to loading it onto his truck.

Then the PA truck that had broken down coming to get our stuff broke down AGAIN on its way back.

And of course it was a Friday and no one could look at the truck until Monday which was the last day of our move in window. Our driver was completely out of touch on Monday so no one heard from him in regard to progress for the move. At this point I switched my form of payment from cash to credit card so that I might have some protection with my credit card company as I had little faith that my stuff would arrive intact if at all. My Customer service contact assured me that the change would be communicated to the driver, and of course it was not, and he was looking for a check when he showed up.

On Tuesday morning we were informed that our driver was able to get back on the road, and we should expect Delivery by Wednesday. On Tuesday afternoon around 12:30, our driver drives past our house in a personal truck to survey the street. At this point I am wondering why we didn't get a Tuesday afternoon delivery, but again, I have lost all confidence in Mayflower and feel this is just one more example of their lack of care for their customers experience.

Finally, Wednesday morning comes, we had blocked spaces for our driver, and he arrives a half hour early without notice, so we had to scramble to get the cars moved so that he could get the truck parked, blocking access to the entire street and frustrating our new neighbors as they were trying to get out of their houses to get to work. Upon the opening of the truck I can already see crushed boxes and the lack of care for how things were packed in there.

All in all 20 boxes, most of them marked fragile were considerably damaged, and many more had some level of minor damage from being thrown around. There are six boxes unaccounted for, one of which was a tool box and another was a box of kitchen items. Both of our TVs were damaged even though they were boxed in the special TV boxes with the appropriate foam packing materials, one of the TV boxes was crushed, and the inventory sheet was marked as such, the other TV had less obvious damage to the box and is scratched in a place that lines up with the dents in the front of the box. Two of our garden boxes had planters in them that would have only been broken had the been dropped as they were solid cement planters (small and packed appropriately).

I am writing this two days after our delivery date, so I still have boxes to open, and I can only assume that there will be more items damaged, and hopefully I can figure out what else I am missing, although I haven't looked into what Mayflower will do about the items that went missing.

I did get the insurance, but I have to wait to file my claim until I open every box because apparently multiple claims is too confusing for their giant national computer system to handle with the tech available in 2021.

And I have to keep all the packaging and damaged items until they are able to inspect it to make sure I am not trying to rip them off like I feel that they completely ripped me off. They gave me a whopping $100 a day for late delivery.

Let me tell you, $100 a day does not cover it when you are essentially camping out and need to eat out every meal and sleep on the floor (after already doing so for the 5 days previous that you had prepared for but hoped that the delivery would come towards the early end of your delivery window and not the end).

Overall, a totally disappointing experience with Mayflower, and it is unlikely that I will ever use this company again in the future. CChoose

Beware of Unethical Activity

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This post is to help consumers be aware of the many ways that Unigroup, Mayflower, United Van Lines, Drivers can scam consumers:

1. The weight you pay is NOT the actual weight of your items. Unless you weigh every box and item yourself you will never know. This is how they make money..they skim the top off he weight, especially if they give you a binding estimate.

2. They are not up to date on technology. They do not use scanners or bar codes for each box or item. Ask yourself way a 1.8 billion dollar company doesn't have the latest technology...maybe there is an advantage to them. If other billion dollar CPG brands can manage to bar code and scan billions of individual items nationally, and Amazon can bar code and scan every shipment, surely this company could do it...

3. Drivers and help will lie to you and say all your boxes are there. They may not hand you paperwork at the start of your move-in so you can check each box when it enters the house. Often times they will bring in multiple boxes and rush the process and this creates a barrier to the consumer being able to inspect and look at each box. DO NOT TRUST THEIR WORD. THE MOMENT YOU SIGN OFF ON THE PAPERWORK YOU ARE SCREWED AND THE DRIVERS KNOW THIS AND WANT TO GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE IT WOULD BE MONEY THAT COMES OUT OF THEIR POCKET. The fox is watching the hen house. The process is broken and there is zero integrity.

4. The drive may not check in with the destination agent and may hire his own "guys" at the destination at a cheaper price. Be aware that the cheap guys the driver hires may not have went through background checks and finger-printing so we as consumers do not know who the heck we are allowing into our homes...BLIND TRUST EVERYONE. WAKE UP!!!

5. You need to carefully and methodically set up your receiving system personally. Do not use the driver or company, do not rely on them to be honest. You are the enemy in their eyes, the consumer that complains and the thing they have to be careful of manipulating so they don't lose any money.

- Allow them only to go through 1 door of your home. Have someone stationed there. No box goes into the home without checking it off on the paperwork and inspecting the box. Take photos of each box immediately and start your claim/documentation. Yes, be that careful and that exact. It is the only way you will be able to look out for yourself.

6. Mayflower/Unigroup - they care more about corporate moves and repeat corporate customers so they will pay more attention to ensuring those people are happy as they want to maintain the business account. So if you are an independent consumer moving you need to be extra cautions about your move.

7. The driver and all people entering your home should be in full uniform. If they are not then take pictures. Call corporate Mayflower / Unigroup in Fenton MO immediately. Take video. Document everything.

8. If your new home has a security system with cameras - have them rolling prior to the movers coming so you have video footage of the move and the people.

9. Get the names of each individual that entered your home. Theres are your personal possessions. Don't trust anyone. Moving is difficult and finding good talent isn't easy. The requirements for a Unigroup/Mayflower mover can be just a year to 2 years experience. That's it. And, they can miss background checks and felonies.

10. The driver is not supposed to leave the residence/move for any reason and if he/she does you need to have the Unigroup/Mayflower phone number and call. Have another person record/video tape you so you have documentation of averaging.

11. VIDEO TAPE YOUR MOVE, every detail. It will be your best evidence.

12. Mayflower/Unigroup is an inbreeding of their own people - affiliates sit on the board of Unigroup, there is an old boys club, they watch each other's back and may look the other way. How can Unigroup honestly investigate another mover or driver when the owner of the moving company sits on their board or a committee. They will then support each other, discuss how unrealistic consumers are and how its "a numbers game".

13. Read the legal case Chen VS. Mayflower. Chen won. It was only a slap on the wrist for Mayflower but the case speaks volumes about how far Unigroup will go to try to keep old laws in place that are self-serving.

https://casetext.com/case/chen-v-mayflower-transit

14. Do not trust their claims adjusters - see if they are licensed, ask for their license, registration and documentation that proves they are a real claims adjuster with experience

15. Do not believe their claim repair estimates. The repair people may tell them one thing and Mayflower/Unigroup may lie to you and tell you a different story. Remember, it is a numbers game for them, they are pressured to deliver shareholder profits at all costs and a claim, loss, damage does against their internal rating/award system and affects their insurance costs.

16. Drivers are supposed to have ongoing background checks. They may not do them as regularly as you think Get the drivers business card and then do your own background check online...especially if you have issues...you may be very surprised at what you find out such as felonies and ongoing traffic violations. If you can get the name of the driver at the time they pick up your load than get it ASAP and run your background check, scope out the driver on social media, look for arrest records, felonies etc. so that you can determine on your own what you are dealing with. Don't believe the advertising, marketing and spin the company puts out

17. If you have to hire an attorney be sure to find one with transportation/logistic experience or you will get screwed. And, most of the better attorneys will not take a case from a one-off consumer because they want to work with the big corporations and get paid the big bucks...taking a case like yours will prevent them from making money.

18. Mayflower distributes the revenue collected for a given shipment among the agent booking the shipment, the origin agent, and the hauling agent, with Mayflower retaining on average 13% of the charges for the actual transportation of the shipment. (Pl.'s LR Resp. ¶ 13.) When cash is collected by an affiliate at delivery, the funds are retained by the affiliate but the affiliate enters the amount collected into Mayflower's system and that amount is posted as a debit against the affiliate's account. ( Id. ¶ 12.) When Mayflower distributes the revenue from a shipment to the affiliate who provided the service, the revenue is posted to the affiliate's statement as a credit. ( Id.) The accounts of the individual affiliates are cleared on a weekly basis and payment is made either to or from Mayflower. ( Id.) Charges that are levied in addition to the estimate ( i.e., charges that exceed the estimate) are also collected and distributed by Mayflower. (Def.'s LR Resp. ¶ 15.) Credit card payments are collected directly by Mayflower, although there are some exceptions. (Pl.'s LR Resp. ¶¶ 10-12.) Generally, shippers must obtain preapproval of their credit cards before they may use them to pay for services. (Webb Dep. at 114-17.) On an infrequent basis, shippers are permitted to pay at the point of destination without having obtained preapproval of their credit cards. (Pl.'s LR Resp. ¶ 17) (citing Webb Dep. at 185-86.) Under Mayflower's policy, shippers seeking preapproval of their credit cards must generally submit their cards to the booking affiliate companies, who in turn transmit the data to Mayflower's central credit department. (Pl.'s LR Resp. ¶ 17.)

19. BEWARE - Just because a truck for your local move says "Mayflower" doesn't mean that brand is actually involved...it is really the local company that is moving your items. The "halo" that they get from the consumers believing they are Mayflower creates the impression in the consumers mind that "hey I should trust them more". Hold the phone and don't go there - do not turn over your trust. You need to understand what is really going on..... The local moving companies continue to conduct local ( i.e., in-state) moves under their own authority, and keep that business completely separate from their relationship with Mayflower. (Webb Dep. at 174-75.) When conducting local moves, local moving companies may identify themselves as Mayflower affiliates and use trucks with the Mayflower logo, but must explain that, for local moves, they are not "Mayflower." ( Id, at 175-76.)

20. WARNING ABOUT PUTTING THINGS IN STORAGE - Storage of property also falls outside the affiliates' relationships with Mayflower. The responsibility for storage is the local company and not Mayflower...so if you are suing you need to sue the local company and you can put Mayflower. Be sure to video tape and photograph the trucks that use the marketing "agent for Mayflower" as they want the marketing benefits but under the facade there is a sobering reality. BEWARE.

21. Go look at the storage facility - have the moving company provide you with pictures and get everything in writing - how security is handled, who is allowed in and out of the facility and so forth. Is it climate controlled?

It is important that you look past the illusion of marketing. The illusion of the "Mayflower brand" to see what is behind the curtain. To know what you really area buying. There is not other industry in any business that can operate with such a lack of transparency, with this kind of illusionary advertising/PR/marketing. The government bodies that are supposed to be overseeing this entity - unigroup, mayflower and related brands....are they really independently doing this?

22. It is time to disrupt this sector of business. It is time for a "Tesla" of moving. This entire dinosaur of an industry must collapse and die off. The slimy ethics, the inbreeding of activities/people, the CYA and look the other way behaviors...there needs to be a #METOO for the moving industry, they need to be exposed. We need innovators from the Tech Sector to come in and develop the software, apps and so forth were consumers can watch their merchandise in real-time travel. There needs to be photos/video of each item tied to bar code. There needs to be driver CDL background checks - MONTHLY. Consumers cannot allow the risk of having felons in their homes, with their children, wives, elderly and so forth. HOW CAN UNIGROUP NOT HAVE THE LATEST APPS AND BAR CODES????? If they are a 1.8B corporation where is all the money going? Why are the no reinvesting it in technology? Here's some advice Unigroup Chairman, H. Daniel McCollister and President Marc Rogers -- get your act together...get up to speed on 2020 and where technology is at or be eaten by the innovation that is going to have you as a snack because how you treat people begs for complete and total disruption of your industry. We are wondering if their of these guys even have social media accounts.

FedEx and UPS transport way many more packagings than UniGroup. Why is it they know where every box is and UniGroup doesn't? You almost want to feel sorry for Unigroup given how pathetic and clumsy the entire enterprise/system they put in place is.

Apology and refund from the company.

Updated by user Jun 24, 2019

Have been negotiating with company since last communication with you. Customers should never give up in a situation in which contract rights and responsibilities were violated.

Record pictures, dates, times, names as that info will be valuable in pursuing case. The company against which we had the grievance was willing to listen to our story, offered an apology and refunded money to us. Not too many companies are willing to be so generous. We are pleased with the results.

Restores our confidence in recommending them to others who may be in need of relocation assistance. Persistence sometimes is rewarded.

Original review May 25, 2019

Trusted them with our move and it was the worst ever! More

concerned with their $ than their customers.

They showed up

6 hrs late for unloading. We have many broken items (and worst of

all are antique items). Boxes left in garage rather then carried to

rooms that were even designated on box. They sent not the

crew that we were promised (ones that loaded truck) but

others that had to arrive from other cities.

My husband, age 72

ended up helping them.

The supervisor was tired he said and

ended up asleep in his A/C cab. Items that were to be put back

together they never accomplished.

To post the truth is allowed- She got 19,000 dollars from this company and supposedly had NO assetsThe Federal and state government has been protecting this fraudster or bankruptcy and VA disability claim. She is a social worker at the VA in CO or WY and heavily protected by the government obviously.

Do you think the government should be notified about fraud and then protects the wrong doer. I know her VA claim is fraudulent, how? She told me. The bankruptcy fraud was a no brainer.

Would you want this person assisting your veteran family member? I wouldn't.

Re: Darren J, agent for Mayflower Transit on 3/13/18

As a neighbor of someone moving on my block with the services of above agent I want to address my complaint about this Darren J hitting and breaking branch on my tree in the front part of my property with his truck. When addressed by me his comment was it wasn't his fault as tree was in the way of his truck.

My tree branches are 20-30 feet above street and have never had anyone come close to hitting branches. He was extremely rude and would not provide me with anyone to contact re my complaint. I called the non-emergency local police (Sherman Oaks, CA-LAPD) and they came out and confronted him. He finally provided them with his card and after asking for an apology for damaging my tree on my private property he said he was sorry.

He addressed the problem only because the police were present. I will never use the services of Mayflower as they employ agents that destroy private property and don't take any responsibilty for their actions.

Worst (and most costly) Move Ever!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Mayflower Transit - Worst (and most costly) Move Ever!

We contacted Mayflower moving company in March 2016 to pack and transport our household goods from Arkansas to Florida. The "partner company" representative from Mayflower (Razorback Moving and Storage) quoted an extremely outrageous price ($16,943.69) for an 880 mile transport.

While the price was extremely steep, we agreed to it because we were under a deadline to move out because we had sold the house. The representative stated we would have "exclusive use" of a 4,100 cubic foot capacity truck. On the date of pickup of goods, the representative showed up 6 HOURS LATE with a much smaller truck than was agreed to (Freightliner brand). He then told us that we basically didn't have any choice in the matter other than to accept the smaller truck.

He stated he didn't have another truck anywhere in the state. Since he had PLENTY of time to get a truck, we feel he didn't do so on, either on purpose or through extremely poor business planning. He also virtually threatened that..., if we wanted the size truck which had been negotiated (and agreed to) in the contract, we would have to schedule another transport date and the move couldn't take place for 1-2 weeks. After some heated negotiations, the Mayflower rep agreed to decrease the price by approximately $1,000 but it took the threat of legal action to do so.

The Mayflower movers then CRAMMED all the furniture into the smaller truck and departed. I found out later that same day that a Mayflower 18-wheeled tractor trailer rig was sitting idle at a local Walmart parking lot. Yes, I have pictures of the truck that was at Walmart. I also took pictures of the truck Razorback Moving showed up with.

To add insult to injury, we found out after arrival in Florida that we would have to pay the mover an ADDITIONAL $171 to remove the used boxes. When I called Mayflower on 12 April to complain about the additional charge, I talked to a snotty, condescending "customer service" representative who continually talked over me during the conversation. She..., like the Razorback moving company and Mayflower in general, treated me and my family like we were a bottomless pocketbook and something that should be scrapped off the bottom of their shoes. At NO time during the initial contract negotiation process was a "removal fee" for the boxes EVER discussed or even offered!!

In short, buyer beware!! Mayflower, in my opinion, will nickel and dime every customer they can... using ever form of deceptive practices available to extract maximum money from each sucker (customer). Mayflower failed to deliver the correct sized truck, over-crammed the truck they showed up with, failed to inform us of a box removal fee, and never asked us if we wanted the boxes removed at the end.

We believe Mayflower misrepresented itself during the entire contract negotiation period, subsequent move, and ending period. They will NEVER get another dime of our money. DO NOT USE MAYFLOWER OR UNITED (United is owned by the same company as Mayflower).

Be warned!!

Horrible company. Never use Mayflower.

I wish there was a Zero or negative star rating to choose. A well known company and best rated by BBB is not very promising.

I have booked my move on May 22nd and my stuff was packed and loaded on Mayflower(mayflower Dodge) Moving truck on June 18th, 2014. We are moving from Swansea, IL(Suburbs of St. Louis) to Clermont, Florida.Today it's July7th, but no idea when they will deliver it. I was given dates for delivery from June 23rd through June 28th.

They packed it all in one truck and the loading crew told me it's only our stuff so it should rather be quicker. We were supposed to be assigned a driver for our truck on the date of loading the truck which obviously never happened. Tried to contact many a people and Mayflower Customer care but they kept saying they don't have a driver and can't help it. They still have same answer what they had 20 days ago.

We are living in Florida waiting for our truck to arrive since June 23rd. No idea when will they deliver our stuff. Also the inconvenience is far greater than what it seems theoretically. They are supposed to give us $100/day after June 28 onwards for delay but that's nothing in comparison to our frustration, loss of work days, Financial losses etc.

I am just wishing that I should have driven my own stuff by Budget/U-haul truck etc.PLEASE DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY FOR MOVING. Otherwise you may regret it.PLEASE DON'T CHOOSE MAYFLOWER EVER.

Mayflower Indefinitely Holding Household Goods

We are a military family with a 2 year old in the middle of a PCS move from Maryland to Oklahoma. Mayflower was contracted by the Army to move our household goods.

We scheduled the move on June 17th and everything was packed up and taken away on June 25th. We were told that our stuff would be here no later than July 7th. Bearing this in mind, we rented a house and having been staying in a hotel awaiting our stuff.

It is now July 6th and we were just told by Mayflower that our stuff is STILL in Maryland!

They have not assigned a driver to it and will not give us an E.T.A. Of course this is not their fault. They blame the Army. According to them, the Army lowered the rate that they will pay the moving companies, so many moving companies won't do PCS moves anymore, so Mayflower is "busy." Translation: Mayflower has a corner on the military move market and is not afraid of losing the contract (since no one else wants it) so they have no reservations about putting military families on the back burner and giving them horrible service.

After all, they're not going to lose our business! We don't have a choice but to go through whomever the Army contracts! Their solution is for us to continue to pay out of pocket to stay in a hotel or to rent furniture and they will reimburse us at some point in the future. Of course it's hard to make a decision like that, since we have NO EARTHLY IDEA about when we can expect our stuff!

Meanwhile, our credit card will rack up interest as we continue to pay for things out of pocket, we'll have to keep eating mediocre, overpriced restaurant food, paying to do our laundry when we own a washer/dryer, etc. etc. while they get their act together.

I will NEVER EVER go through Mayflower when my husband retires. This is how they treat military families who are already under stress.

My 2 year old is miserable stuck in this hotel room. I just want to get him settled into our house and a routine, but that is impossible!

Mayflower left my 67 year old mother in the lurch!

Mayflower stinks. My mother signed a contract that had TBA for a delivery time. Yes, she shouldn't have, but what did she know having only moved once in her life? Her contract does not even have an order number on it.

Then they moved the delivery time THREE times. Every time she called to ask where it was she was given another excuse (lie), such as van is not full, no drivers, gas is too high, etc. She has been sleeping on the floor for 32 days. They give NO answers on the phone and are so rude.

I would NEVER use Mayflower again.
